  • Information Breach Statement

The Construction Training Fund (CTF) will make every effort to protect personal information from unauthorised access, misuse or disclosure, and work towards limiting and preventing breaches by proactively improving its information management practices.

The CTF is committed to managing information breaches with transparency and integrity. This statement outlines the processes that CTF will follow to respond to and manage an information breach, and to mitigate future breaches, when a breach or suspected breach is detected.

These procedures and protocols are outlined in the CTF’s Information Breach Response Plan.

In addition to the requirements in this policy, any breach that relates to a suspected breach of discipline or code of conduct must also be reported in accordance with the CTF’s Code of Conduct.

An information breach occurs when information that an entity holds is subject to unauthorised access, use or disclosure, or is lost, damaged or destroyed.

An information breach may be caused by

  • malicious action (by an external or insider party)
  • human error, or
  • a failure in information handling or security systems.

It can involve different types of information and give rise to a range of actual or potential harms to the individuals whose information is compromised.

What is an information breach?

An information breach occurs when there has been unauthorised access to, or loss of information held and/or managed by the CTF. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Accidental loss or theft of data or equipment on which data is stored, including hard copy records and CTF issued e-storage devices
  • Unauthorised use, access to, or modification of data or information monitoring systems
  • Accidental or unauthorised disclosure of the CTF’s information of classified material
  • ICT system/application/service failure
  • Deliberate online or physical attempts to gain access to information held by the CTF.
